El pan de la guerra
By Deborah Ellis
Living in a bombed out apartment under Taliban rule in Afghanistan, a young girl, Parvana, must find a way to provide for her family when her father is taken by the Taliban. Since her mother cannot work (simply because she is a woman), Parvana takes it upon herself to cut her hair and pretend to be a boy so that she can work and provide food for her family. The royalties of this carefully written novel will go towards the education of girls in Pakistani refugee camps.
